Doug GIlmour to coach in Kingston

Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced earlier this week that former Maple Leafs Doug Gilmour will be leaving the organization to become the head coach of the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League. Gilmour joined the Toronto Marlies as an assistant coach on August 7, 2008. It will be his first job as a head coach.

Gilmour, a native of Kingston, Ontario, succeeded Wendel Clark as team captain for three years starting in 1994 and he played in 392 games for Toronto and earned 452 points (131 goals and 321 assists) from 1992 to 1997.

Carbonneau not happy with Habs performance

Head coach Guy Carbonneau was not happy at all after the Habs' 2-1 loss against the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Despite the lack of effort and chemistry shown by the Canadiens, Carbonneau has decided to keep the same lines at pratice earlier today.

Don't expect the see Laraque in tomorrow's game against the Senators as Chris Neil is out with a knee injury. However, expect Maxim Lapierre to suit in place of Mathieu Dandenault.

Sabres to wear 3rd jersey on November 26

The Buffalo Sabres announced today they will debut their new third jersey on Wednesday, November 26 against Boston.

This will be the first time the Sabres will wear their retro jersey, which was announced on September 20.

The jersey will be worn 15 times at home and once on the road in Toronto.

Bruins recall rearguard Matt Lashoff

The Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Matt Lashoff today from the Providence Bruins. They also put Andrew Ference on the injury reserve.

Lashoff, 22, has played in 15 games this season for Providence and has posted 3-10-13 totals, along with 21 penalty minutes.

Ference sustained a fractured right tibia on November 13, 2008 against Montreal and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Prior to his injury, Ference appeared in Boston’s first 16 games and recorded 0-7-7 totals and a +9 plus/minus rating. He was the Bruins' most consistent rearguard this season.

Senators recall Cody Bass; Fisher and Neil shelved with injuries

The Ottawa Senators have recalled forward Cody Bass from their AHL affiliate because Mike Fisher is shelved with a knee injury that will keep out of the lineup for the next two weeks.
In 16 games with Binghampton, Bass has 2 points and 37 penalty minutes.

Forward Chris Neil is also out with a knee injury. He had an MRI on Tuesday and he's awaiting the results. He's out indefinitely.

Craig Hartsburg on a short leash

When Bryan Murray hired Craig Hartsburg this summer as the Senators' new head coach, he was pretty confident Hartsburg would turn the Senators around after a horrendous finish last season.

17 games into the 2008-09 season, the Senators are sitting at the bottom on the Eastern Conference, a mere point in front of the lowly Florida Panthers and they are tied with the NY Islanders, after losing both games a back-to-back series against the latter team.

GM Bryan Murray signed Hartsburg to a three-year contract last June to replace John Paddock who had been fired in February. After a torrid start unded Paddock, the Senators stumbled, leading to his firing at the end of February. Murray, who is not known as being a patient general manager, finished the season behind the bench.

This season, the Senators have had troubles scoring goals, averaging only 2.4 goals/game after finishing 2nd overall offensively last season. Secondary scoring has been a problem all season, as Mike Fisher (2 g, 4 a, 6 points), Antoine Vermette (2 g, 2 a, 4 points) and Nick Foligno (2 g, 2a, 4 points, a team worst -11) haven't been able to get going as they are in a season-long slump.

Bryan Murray, because of the salary cap, hasn't been able to add a puck-moving defenseman nor a veteran forward (Mark Parrish anyone?) to help boost his anemic offense.

And since Bryan Murray will not fire himself because of his inability to make a trade, Craig Hartsburg is the likely scapegoat if the players don't turn things around.

Tonight in Madison Square Garden, the Cash line (Spezza, Alfredsson and Healtey) will be reunited in order to sparkplug a team that has only scored 12 goals in November (the Sens are 2-4-1 in 7 games). Rearguard Brendan Bell has also been recalled from Binghampton to help with the powerplay and the transition game.

This week will be critical for Craig Hartsburg as the Senators face the Rangers in New York tonight, before they host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday and those same Rangers on Saturday night.

Should his team doesn't manage to earn 4 points out of 6, look for Bryan Murray to pull the trigger and let Craig Hartsburg go. The Senators have 4 days off next week...
